'We were walking back so nervous we’d have to search all night for him': Trivia team comes back to rescue sad stray cat from the streets, names him "Beef Wellington," and finds him a purrmanent place to sleep safely

Pawdon us while we wipe away a happy tear. This story has everything: mystery, teamwork, snacks, and one incredibly polite street loaf named Beef Wellington. 

Tigers, Panthers, Bengals… sure, sports teams have their feline mascots, but none compare to this muddy little MVP who chose his trivia team like a fantasy draft pick. A group of hoomans spotted Beef Wellington laying down in a dirt pile like it was his personal cat bed and wandered over to say "hey kitty." He gave one meow and instantly secured a fanbase eager to give him pets.

At first, his new hoomans assumed he was just your average Brooklyn bodega cat, living his best life between deli meats and soda fridges. But plot twist: this kitty was just a street cat. No store, no collar, just vibes. So between crushing trivia rounds, the group put together the ultimate rescue heist. They grabbed a carrier and a cat-loving stranger with a two-bathroom palace ready to foster, then set off to find Beef Wellington.

The best part? He waited.  Hours later, right where they left him, Beef Wellington was chilling with two more adoring fans, accepting snacks like a true kitty king.

Now he's off the streets and safe at a shelter and looking to get officially off the meowket.

    started walking away and he followed us to a bodega and went up to the door. we let him in and we went "this is your cat right?" assuming he's the store cat. NOPE. my friend was brave and picked him up and he was so chill with it. we bought him a can of food and went to trivia because we didn't know what to do.

    search all night for him because it had been 3 hours but nope!!! he was right with 2 OTHER people who were feeding him. i grabbed my hard carrier from my apartment while they stayed with him. we scooped him up and he went right in!

    after a few days, our local greenpoint rescues got him an appt at ASPCA. he got neutered & then got taken in by puppy kitty NYC. we found out that his big cheek was most likely a burst abscess :( but he got treatment. and we also think the dirt on his paws was either car oil or fresh tar because they were paving nearby. either way, this loveable boy is off the streets. i'm so happy for him.

  • Imagine walking into a shop and having Beef Wellington greet you. Petition to make it mandatory for all bodegas to have cats. From Brooklyn and beyond, because every shop needs a good meownager.
